Balliamo x Robert Rohm: a Dance Exhibit is a tribute to the
legacy of late RI sculptor and artist Robert Rohm.
The WaterFire Arts Center is hosting the exhibit Down to Earth: Robert Rohm
Sculpture, 1963-2013, from 24 March to 25 April. Balliamo Creative Director
Annamaura Silverblatt has created a dynamic, multidimensional tribute to Robert
Rohm using the exhibit as a palette. Audiences will be able to view the artists’ wide
range of work and contributions as a Rhode Island sculptor, all while the Balliamo
Dance Collective honors him through modern dance routines choreographed to
enhance the artistry of his work.
Robert Rohm is internationally recognized for his sculptures, with exhibitions at the
Whitney Museum of American Art, Boston’s Institute of Contemporary Art, the San
Diego Museum of Contemporary Art, the Seattle Art Museum and the Kunsthalle in
Zurich, Switzerland. Rohm was a dedicated sculptor and a professor of art at the
University of Rhode Island for over thirty years.
Rohm’s work will be highlighted by Balliamo Dance Collective dancers Amy Burns,
Lea D'Arminio and Nancy Reed, poet Christopher Johnson and Violinist Big Lux. The
multidisciplinary approach to performance is at the heart of Balliamo's mission,
expanding audience perceptions of what a dance company can offer and
highlighting the artistic experience of Rohm’s vast contributions to the art world.
"I was honored to be asked back to perform in such a wonderful exhibit.
Performance restrictions brought on the Pandemic have made events like this
challenging, and opportunities like these are truly gifts. This performance is a
collaboration from the artists involved: dancers, a musician and a poet, and it will
make for an incredible testimonial to the multidimensional artistic experience and
the work Robert did over his fifty-year career."
- Balliamo Creative Director, Annamaura Silverblatt
The event will take place Sunday, April 11 at 3:30 pm at the WaterFire Arts Center.
There will be two showings, and there is no ticket charge for the event (donations
are encouraged).
